The best way to prevent stroke is to take an active role in your health, and having regular physical exams is an important way to keep your health on track for life. Your physician may test you for high blood pressure. He or she also may check your blood glucose level to screen for type 2 diabetes, a major risk factor for stroke.

Be prepared for your office visit. Make a list of any concerns or questions that you have about your health. Also bring a list of all medications that you're currently taking, including over-the-counter products and supplements.
